1st Werribee Scout Group - Venturer Scouts

At 1st Werribee, Venturers is where the adventure reaches new heights! If you’re aged 14 to 17 and looking for exciting challenges, leadership opportunities, and unforgettable experiences, Venturers is the place for you. Venturers is all about personal growth, teamwork, and adventure. You’ll plan and lead your own activities, take part in epic expeditions, learn survival skills, go camping, rock climbing, abseiling, and so much more. Our program encourages leadership development, community service, and outdoor activities that push you to be your best. Whether it’s conquering new heights, navigating through the wilderness, or running your own projects, Venturers helps you grow in confidence and resilience. In Venturers, there are 3 main annual statewide camps: Anything Goes in February, Winter Gathering in July, and Vic Gathering in December. Their Jamboree-style camp is Venture, and is run every 3 years.

Unit Council is the leadership structure of the Venturer Unit. Both Monday and Thursday have a Unit Council, who are youth members elected by the Unit to run the Unit. Each Unit Council consists of a Unit Chair, Deputy Unit Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Social Media Rep and Equipment Officer. Adult Leaders attend in more of a supervisory capacity, as the program is mostly Youth Leading, Adult Supporting.

1st Werribee Venturer Scouts meet with the Werribee Plains District Venturer Unit on either Monday (7:30 pm - 9:30 pm) at 2nd Werribee Scout Hall or Thursday (7:00 pm - 9:00 pm) at 1st Werribee Scout Hall.

The Venturer Scout Peak Award:

King's Scout Award

The King's Scout Award is the highest award a Venturer can earn while in the Venturer Scout section. To be awarded the King's Scout Award, Venturers need to:

Complete Milestone 3 (Milestone 1 and Milestone 2 are optional)

Have achieved Stage 5 in all three Core OAS Areas of Bushcraft, Bushwalking and Camping

Progress 12 OAS Stages during the Section or since achieving their Australian Scout Award. At least four of these Stage progressions must include achievement of Stage 4 or above in any skill area (can include advancement of Core skills, if not previously achieved)

Complete 6 Projects in a least 3 Special Interest Areas

(Each Project is a minimum 12-hour duration, including Plan>Do>Review>)

Plan> and lead an Adventurous Journey of at least 4 days / 3 nights' duration

(A maximum of two Venturer Scouts may plan and lead the journey.)

Attend a weekend Personal Development or Leadership Course

Personal Reflection

Upon completion of the elements that make up the King's Scout Award, the Scout then Reviews> their journey through the Section.

The King's Scout Award requires the approval of the Unit Council, and all the award requirements must be completed and approved before the Venturer Scout progresses to the Rover Scout Section.
